‘They’re animals’

with one comment

Lost in all the talk about the need for bipartisanship and pragmatism is the acknowledgment that the fringe right doesn’t simply disagree with its ideological opponents – they hate liberals.

In his rambling CPAC speech today, Andrew Breitbart described how he has enjoyed going to progressive rallies and peppering the protesters with questions. But, he said, the women of the anti-war group Code Pink are “tedious at this point” because they used to be “kinda slutty lefties,” but “they’re getting long in the tooth.”

“I don’t know why I decided to make my career trying to destroy the institutional left. I thought that would be a fun thing to do,” he said at the opening of his remarks. He described how he’s found that the people in protests “are not individuals. They’ve been community organized.”

“They’re not Americans,” Breitbart said later. “They’re animals.”

Or cancer. Definitely something that needs to be obliterated for the sake of humanity itself.

And before anyone suggests Breitbart and Beck are unserious fringers, let’s remember that their campaign against ACORN gained mainstream acceptance before that organization was defunded -without trial. Oh, and then it turned out the videos had been manipulated, yadda, yadda, yadda. But gon’t let the truth get in the way of a good racist yarn.

Also, too, Breitbart informs us that the SEIU, OFA, Acorn, and the Obama Administration are in cahoots to rape virginal suburban white girls, or something. I’ll give readers a shiny nickel if they can tell me what ACORN, unions, Shirley Sherrod, and Breitbart’s lunatic obsession, Pigford, all have in common. Hint: It rhymes with ‘flack feople.’

Update: Breitbart says ‘people in protests’ are animals. I doubt he means this generally, however. The remark doesn’t appear to be aimed at the Tea Party.

The myth of Beck’s ‘apolitical’ event

with 26 comments

I have no idea what Ross Douthat is doing. Now that he appears to have gotten all the baddies out constructing weird arguments against gay marriage, he’s moved on to defending Glenn Beck and his totally “apolitical” geriatric love-in.

This, among other reasons, is why I have appointed Ross my new David Brooks for his awe-inspiringly hapless work. David Brooks has been promoted to my new Maureen Dowd, and Maureen is my new drunk aunt. Congratulations, everyone!

In today’s mistake, Ross states the following:

The Fox News host had promised that the rally, billed as a celebration of American values, would be an explicitly apolitical event. And so it came to pass: save for an occasional “Don’t Tread On Me,” banner, the crowded Mall was nearly free of political signs and T-shirt slogans, and there was barely a whisper of the crusade against liberalism that consumes most of Beck’s on-air hours.

Here, Ross neglects to mention that signs and banners were banned from Beck’s gathering. You see, teabaggers have had a little problem with certain members carrying incredibly racist and provocative signs in the past, so instead of letting their racism shine through — unfiltered for all the world to see — Beck and his handlers preemptively censored his base. Furthermore, what appeared on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial was a watered-down, “safe” version of Beck’s philosophy.

Pat Boone calls White House ‘mosque at 1600 Pennslyvania Avenue’

with 4 comments

I’m aware that the most shocking part of this is the fact that Pat Boone is still alive. Regardless, I decided to post the story here, though I refuse to link to the hate den World Net Daily, so you’ll have to Google that for yourself.

I’m a Crazy, Delusional Asshole The mosque at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

By Pat Boone
This isn’t easy to write. It’s not fun to say. It’s virtually unthinkable to realize and acknowledge.

While the controversy still rises and rages on, around the proposed “Cordoba House” mosque and Muslim cultural center right on the edge of Ground Zero, where the World Trade Center stood till Sept. 11, 2001 – there is a world-famous building, dedicated by its current residents to similar purposes, in the middle of Washington, D.C.

We call it the White House.

Some liberal, “change happy” Obamaphiles will instantly call me names for even thinking what I’ve just said, but I want you and any objective reader to look at the following facts. Then see if you can come to a different conclusion.

I enjoy the term “Obamaphiles” because it makes me think of “pedophiles,” and also reinforces my previously held belief that all liberals fuck children. Go on.

We are all, to a great or lesser degree, the inevitable product of how we were raised, what we were taught and experienced as children. Barack Hussein Obama was born to an 18-year-old Caucasian woman and a Kenyan father. Virtually all his early influences, including his biological father and his Indonesian stepfather, his mother and grandparents – were socialists, atheists, and/or Muslims.

Etcetera, Etcetera.

Okay, so why am I posting the rantings of an elderly crooner who made a living stealing black people’s music?

Because I feel this serves as a nice companion to the piece I wrote earlier today about how the wingnuts are using xenophobia as a cover for their preexisting bigotry. That’s not to say they’re consciously doing this, but everyone should keep it in mind as the right rants and raves about “Barack Hussein Obama,” (emphasis on the Hussein – that dirty, foreigny name,) and Kenyans, socialists, atheists, Muslim, and all the rest of the baddies – conveniently lumped together in the shape of a black man, who is president.

Where is the unhallowed ground?

with 29 comments

Mike Blake/Reuters

A few days ago, I (along with Citizen Radio co-host Jamie Kilstein) debated a pair of Conservatives at a show run by comedian Scott Blakeman. The contentious topic of discussion was – surprise, surprise – the Cordoba House. The Conservatives’ reoccurring claim was that Ground Zero is hallowed ground – a familiar talking point to anyone who has been following the news.

Of course, I pointed out that the Cordoba House is not a mosque – it’s actually a cultural center – more like a YMCA, and that it’s not at Ground Zero. The Cordoba House would be located in Lower Manhattan where there are already two other mosques. But these facts didn’t really make a dent. The Conservatives kept coming back to this claim that Lower Manhattan – all of it, not just Ground Zero – is somehow “hallowed ground.”

This mock piety is really a cover for Islamophobia. Time and again, the Conservatives reiterated that Islam is a radical, violent religion, and they kept asking where the moderate Muslims were to protest the extremist behavior displayed on 9/11. Ironically, the group proposing the Cordoba house is one of the moderate groups. The community center would have invited people of all races and religions to use their facilities – something radical extremists frown upon.

And there are lots of moderate Muslim groups. To name only a few: the World Organization for Resource Development and Education (WORDE), Center for Eurasian Policy at the Hudson Institute Farid Ghadry, Reform Party of Syria Manda Zand Ervin, Alliance of Iranian Women, The Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia, Arab Reformists Project, American Islamic Forum for Democracy, and Inter-Religious Affairs for the Islamic Supreme Council of America. These groups met last year with Rep. Sue Myrick for the expressed purpose of “stamping out extremism” in their communities and around the world.

But despite the existence of these groups, the Conservatives kept demanding a Million Muslim March upon the White House to prove their devotion to the U. S. of A. I suggested a purity test. They didn’t seem amused. I asked what the quota of “Good Muslims” is – the magical number of moderate groups it would take to soothe their nerves. Again, they didn’t seem to have a specific number in mind.

Surprise! Some of these teabaggers may have a case of the racism

with 3 comments

Anyone who’s been paying even the slightest bit of attention knows there are more than a few crazy racist people within the Tea Party movement. However, it appears as though the mainstream media is finally awakening to this reality (via)

In several instances, tea party members with racist backgrounds such as Roper have played a role in party events. At the same time, The Kansas City Star has found, white nationalist groups are encouraging members to attend tea parties. One organization based in St. Louis is sponsoring tea parties of its own.

Yes, it’s true. The Tea Party has a bad case of the racism. For example, SPLC recently profiled former Olympic athlete Bob Richards, who has minutely strayed from his career in pole vaulting in order to become a full-time bigot. Richards has taken up with a white supremacist group called the American Third Position (A3P).

That A3P’s cause is to “represent the political interests of White Americans,” according to its mission statement. The California-based organization hopes to unite disaffected racists and field candidates for political offices across the United States.

And A3P has apparently found some kindred spirits within the Tea Party movement.
